Microsoft Corporation is set to show off its next major version of the Windows Operating System, Windows 10 early in 2015 prior to an eventual release date sometime in the Fall of 2015, according to reports.
On
Thursday, Dec. 11, the Redmond, Wa. – based tech titan revealed that on
January 21, 2015, the company will be hosting an event titled "Windows
10: The Next Chapter" which is expected to unveil the Consumer Preview
of the said OS as well as feature the changes in a Technical Preview,
according to Anandtech.com.
The upcoming event will be available
to watch online thorugh live stream. The Blogging Windows site, as said
by the website, will also offer realtime updates.
Below are the names of the designated presenters (via Anandtech):
- Satya Nadella (CEO of Microsoft)
- Terry Myerson (EVP of Microsoft's Operating Systems Group (OSG))
- Joey Belfiore (CVP, OSG)
- Phil Spencer (Head of Microsoft's Xbox division and Microsoft Studios)
Windows
10 was first announced at an event in San Francisco. The tech firm
admitted at that time that the software was "at a threshold" after the
relatively poor reception of Windows 8.
"Windows is at a threshold
and now it's time for a new Windows. Our new Windows must be built from
the ground up for a mobile first, cloud first world," Myerson was
quoted as saying during an interview.
The company further
recognized that the "bold move" of integrating the Live Tile system
somehow deviated from the traditional PC experience and alienated people
who were used to the classic Windows UI.
To answer the issue, the
new OS is expected to bring back "some familiar elements," according to
CNet, while still implementing new changes to the software usage
experience.
As for when it will arrive to desktops, Reuters
previously cited COO Kevin Turner confirming a final release date on
"Fall of 2015."
Beta testers and developers, on the other hand,
may be able to grab a hold of the update by Jan.21 "or whenever
Microsoft chooses to officially release" the version.
Stay tuned for more updates.
